Fix. Retest.
Done.
A failed Clean Truck Check test isn't the end — it's a repair order. And a 'Not Ready' result isn't a fail at all, it just means the truck hasn't driven enough since codes were cleared. Here's how to get to a pass, fast.
Fail vs. "Not Ready"
A fail means a real problem — MIL on, fault codes, or emissions components that didn't pass. A "Not Ready" result means the OBD system hasn't completed its self-checks yet, usually because codes were recently cleared or the battery was disconnected. Neither counts as a pass, but only one needs a repair.
The warm-up cycle rule
- CARB requires 5+ complete warm-up cycles since codes were last cleared
- Trucks with permanent diagnostic trouble codes need 15 cycles
- A 15-minute warmup is NOT enough — it's cycles, not minutes
- Normal driving after repair = fastest path to a valid retest
The retest process
- Get the emissions repair made by your mechanic
- Drive the truck normally until readiness sets (we'll advise on timing)
- We retest at your location — free within 30 days of the failed test
- Standard travel fee applies per visit
- Passing result submitted to CARB same day
Common failure causes we see
- DPF issues — soot loading, regeneration faults
- SCR/DEF system faults and sensor failures
- Tampered or deleted emissions equipment (major violation — don't)
- EGR faults and aftertreatment sensor codes
If your compliance deadline is close, test early — passing results can be submitted up to 90 days before your deadline, and testing early leaves room for the repair-and-retest cycle. Call or text (714) 785-9911.
